Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in the US
By Austin Eggers, MD, of Avera Medical Group Sibley & Osceola Regional Health Center
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. More than 795,000 Americans have a stroke each year, and someone dies of a stroke every 3 minutes. They also cost $56.5 billion, including the cost of services, missed days of work, and medicine.
Time is key to diagnosing and particularly treating stroke. We want you to BE FAST when you or a loved one might be having a stroke. The following is an acronym to help remember signs of a stroke:
B: Balance loss
E: Eyesight Changes
F: Face Drooping
A: Arm (or leg) weakness
S: Speech Difficulty
T: Time to call 911
If you are interested in learning more about the causes, treatment, and prevention of strokes, please attend my Lunch and Learn at noon on December 7, which will be held in the Multi-purpose room at Osceola Regional Health Center.
Call to schedule an appointment at Avera Medical Group Sibley at 712-754-3658 and ask your primary provider if you are at a higher risk for stroke.
