SUMMARY:
Cares for patients at all acuity levels across the lifespan for procedures including, but not limited to, surgical, diagnostic, theraputic, and pain management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of a CCNE or NLN accredited school of registered nursing required.
- Certified Nurse Anesthetist, CRNA.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure required.
- Certified Nurse Anesthetist, CRNA, Board of Nursing
- BLS/ACLS and PALS Certification
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs pre-operative patient assessments.
2. Determines plan of care and communicates the plan of care to patient and family.
3. Establishes and maintains essential venous access.
4. Ensures establishment and maintenance of airway.
5. Responsible for inducting and maintaining and properly managing the anesthesia.
6. Responsible for completing the anesthesia and the emergence from anesthesia.
7. Transfers care to appropriate staff at termination of procedure.
8. Performs post-operative follow-up for each patient/case performed.
9. Perform as a clinical instructor for anesthesia students.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit.
- The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
REQUIRED COMMUNICATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:
- Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to read, write, speak, and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.
- Must be able to perform basic operations on a computer within the Windows operating system.
- This position requires problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- May be exposed to communicable diseases when working in a health care environment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; sharps or cuts; compression or impact and explosives.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
